Media vs Reality: Are tall girls better than short girls?

Beauty pageants (competitions that mainly focuses on the physical beauty of its contestants) require contestants to be of a minimum height. So does that mean that shorter girls are incapable of being beautiful?

Clothes  are made for tall people. Shorter people have no option but to spend more money and get them altered.

Even a job like flight attendant/ air hostess requires a girl to be of a particular height.

And don’t forget the “Looking for tall, slim, educated girl” ads in the matrimonial columns.

Because of this “heightism” or height discrimination in society, many girls start to believe that they are unattractive because they are not tall enough.

But is this the reality? Do men really prefer taller girls?

This question has been raised several times on several forums and the answer in unanimous – height has nothing to do with a girl’s attractiveness. As one guy puts it “as long as u are in good shape,pretty then you are attractive. “

Studies have shown that short women were the most likely to be married and have children. Some reasons which have been suggested for this situation include the fact that short women start puberty earlier than taller women who experience delayed fertility since they spend more energy growing, and that shorter women have a larger pool of men to choose from if they wish for a taller mate.

I think it’s supposed to be natural for women to prefer men who are taller than them, so it makes sense that men prefer women who are shorter.

On the contrary, all my female friends think that a girl’s attractiveness is decided by her height. These days I hear my friends commenting “she is lucky to be tall” , “i wish i was that taller”, “she is pretty but she is too short”. The concept with girls is that ‘the taller the better’.  This thinking is the result of media brainwashing us into thinking that only tall girls are worthy of being called beautiful.

So I would like to put forth this question to all of you, irrespective of your height. Do you think a girl needs to be tall to be considered attractive/hot/sexy?

Why I Don’t Date Fat People

Okay, this has been a long debated and argued topic, but I’d like to express my opinion on it. The truth is…. I would never date a fat person. Before you start making judgments about me let me explain:

• People often try the classic defense to such questions “what if it is because of a medical condition….” but let me tell you that these people are a very small percentile of the total overweight population. The MAIN and most COMMON reasons for obesity are overeating and lack of physical activity.
• I don’t want to marry someone who’s going to have an heart attack any time. It may sound harsh but that is the truth, its not just about looks, I would care less about that, what worries me is all the health problems and diseases associated with living a bad lifestyle. Overeating is more of an addiction and most people end up getting sick (physically and mentally) due to their weight issues.
• Confidence is attractive. Its actually the first thing I notice in a person but sadly its difficult to be confident about yourself if you’re overweight or worse obese.  I know there are exceptions and you’d tell me about that aunt of yours who loves herself and is extremely confident in spite of being 200 lbs. But come on, most young men and women who are fat feel extremely self conscious about themselves and I are always feeling awkward whether you take them to a night club or a mall.
• Then how can I forget my own priorities. I give high importance to health and have been working out in the gym since I was young. I have been a basketball player and a swimmer. So fitness is very important to me. Not because of the looks, again, its because of the health part. We have a short life and its very important to be fresh and healthy to live it to the fullest.
• And rather than looking in the mirror and wondering how the hell you ended up looking so fat why don’t you start working out. How difficult is it to eat a fruit and prevent yourself from binging on that burger? I know you got emotional issues but getting fat is only going to make them worse for you.
• I respect fat people and I definitely don’t mind being friends with them, so I’m not a body fascist, but if I am looking for a life partner I definitely got to have some standards.
